Work Bench

5th August 2008.

For the past two weeks, I attempted to start a few new projects and somehow also continue projects I had started some years ago.

Last weekend, there wasn’t much on TV, so I watched a few DVD’s produced by Darryl Huffman & Scott Mason.  Darryl’s DVD covered clinic’s by Jon Addison, Dave Revelia and some guy called Brian Nolan( Hi Bri ).

The other DVD by Scott Mason covered building a FSM kit. It’s good watching Scott. It’s like he’s talking you direct in your own living room, with the option of turning him off, when you have had enough ( grin )...

Seems I was motivated enough to do more than I bargained for, over two days as can be seen into the following few photos..

Slowly working away with the O scale WSM planer. I still have not read the instructions, but the drawings are so good, that building the assemblies is quite easy.

I have a few tips, which I’ii discuss when I complete the planer.

It was time to continue with a 1:48 structure, while the glue dried on the other projects..

This cardstock, scratch built model, is one of the structures for an overall “extremely busy” town scene. ( see photos at end of this web page.

Curtains to windows and vertical interior cladding, added.

External cladding, painted with that new look finish.

Soon, alotta of internal detail will be added. These I have been preparing for the past few months

Sunday “arvo” I was getting bored , so I opened a couple of Grandt Line On3 ore car kits. I looked at doing these last year, but looked difficult. As it turned out, its a 2 hour “quickie”.  Most of the time is taken waiting for the glue to set......  and having a few cups of coffee.

Some HO structures had window glazing and curtains added.  Upper floor added to a Campbell kit. It gunna be fun super detailing the interior. These kits are destined for a harbour scene. I might be slow and fussy, but hopefully one day to complete this diorama.

28th July 2008.

I recently asked modelers, what is the best AAC available, so as I could start a few “quickie” white metal projects that were still in boxes or packets.  I found the above “super glue” at K Mart. Cost about $5.00.    Also picked up some Araldite, which may come in handy for those bigger projects.

Below is what my workbench looks like at the moment.

Painting figures, a few white metal projects just completed, with some painted and several detail parts being painted for other current projects in various scales.

December 23rd 2007.

Many times I’m asked “What’s up Doc”, referring to any projects I maybe starting or completing.

While I have a few projects on the go, in various scales, this past 2 weeks have been very productive and my creative “juices” have returned 100%.

What ever the reason, I decided to get creative with some of the structures I’d started sometime back and make a few displays. The best part, is adding detail.

One project I started on Monday was “Smiley’sTowing”.  The small structure and vehicles where created by my mate Phil Shapter. The structure was placed on cardstock , then onto a small display board and the diorama grew. I never plan many of my projects, they just develop.

By the way.  I never sit down for long periods, model making.  Most of the time, modeling is done in 10 minute spurts, here and there......My attention span is not all that great... plus I get new ideas, each time I add a new detail....

Well here are a few pics of the past 2 weeks. Everything from figure painting, structure creation and dioramas.

Preparing ground cover for many of the dioramas

I have purchased many structures ( scale 1:87 ) created by other modelers. Last week I decided to get ‘em out of the cupboard and place them onto a base for display.

One project I started on Monday was “Smiley’sTowing”.  The small structure and vehicles where created by my mate Phil Shapter. The structure was placed on cardstock , then onto a small display board and the diorama grew. I never plan many of my projects, they just develop.

Creativity at any level, feeds the mind and soul.

Till next time...  catch ya somewhere soon...

Merry Christmas everyone and may you have a healthy & creative 2008
