Russell Mine

A few years ago, I purchased a 1:87 ( HO scale ) “Leaverite Mine”, that was scratch built by Laurie Green. ( see above left )

I’m currently rebuilding this model in 1:48 scale, for a project that is the pipeline.

With a bundle of timber donated by close friend ,  Barry Dupler, I set-out to build the mine.

Original HO scale plans were up-sized to 1:48.

Thanks to Frederic ( France ) and Bill Black for their help along the way.

   cheers all

Here are a few photos of the construction.

During my travels thru Colorado, I noticed the timber on many prototype structures had some wonderful browns & gold, due to weathering, unlike the common grey colour.

Rico Mine is typical of the finish, I am trying to achieve and will be applied after the model is complete, using highly diluted acrylic paints and then adding very fine, earth colour chalks.

Hope this method works !!
