Revelia Cannery

It all started from a photo, then a few false starts and trail & error.

Back in 2004, from a photo, I built a card-stock mockup, 1:87 scale model.

I decided to start to construct it again into a very large scale...........1:32..... It’s huge....

Here are a few progress “Happy Snappies”

Creating full model 1:32 scale

Still working on Bernard Plumbing 1:87 scale, when I get bored

Cutting balsa strips for roof shingles.  In the end I used harder timber.

Structure starting to take shape.

January 2009

1:32 is nice to work with....   ideal scale to get rid of lots of HO & O scale detail parts...

Some G scale parts are also ideal...

I think, like most structures we have seen in recent times, by other modelers...for every hour spent building the structure, there is another 10 hours preparing the detail parts, figures and internal finishes.....  it's never ending, when time is not on your side...  but it's a good, relaxing mind excercise....

Decided to start building the Balcony. Using Mt Albert timber for the beams & joists and some, thin off cut hardwood  ( from kitchen cabinet maker ) for the deck.

The final size of the balcony will be trail and error, as I want it to look proportional, in the over design concept.

I’m adding windows and doors to the structure as I go. Making changes and cutting out additional doors as required.

In the top right corner of this photo, I have glued a number of barrel’s together and will find a place somewhere on the wharf.  Yep..Ready to add ton’s of detail. “one-day”.....

Tar paper is completed to main roof. The roof will be covered with something else one day, when I know what else will look better and prototypical.

Additional windows have been added and balcony is temporary placed.

It’s starting to take shape over all and I enjoy looking at the many roof lines.

The original design, by an American kit manufacturer, would have to be one of the all time great’s ( in my humble opinion )
